Notice to the Public

Cogdell Memorial Hospital (Scurry County Hospital District) is experiencing a computer network incident that is preventing us from accessing some of our systems and severely limiting the operability of our phone system. Out of an abundance of caution, we immediately removed network connectivity. We have initiated “downtime” (paper) processes allowing us to continue to provide most routine services while we address the issue.

We appreciate your patience as our team diligently works to minimize service interruptions wherever possible while securely restoring full operability and ask for your assistance. Specifically, we request that you bring your identification and insurance cards with you when you come for care. We apologize for the inconvenience and share your frustration.

We are working with third-party computer specialists and systems experts to investigate the full nature and scope of this incident. The appropriate law enforcement agencies have been notified.

At this time, we have no evidence to indicate that any information on our network has been or will be fraudulently misused; however, the ongoing investigation is in its early stages. If it is determined that any personal information related to individuals was impacted by this incident, we will provide notice to those individuals as quickly as possible, in accordance with regulatory requirements and applicable law.

The most important thing you can do right now is remain vigilant. Be aware of potential scams. If you are being asked to give out personal information or send money to unknown persons are organizations, stop! Check the legitimacy of the call before complying with any requests. Also, regularly review and monitor all of your account statements and credit history to guard against any unauthorized transactions or activity. If you discover any suspicious or unusual activity on your accounts, please promptly contact your financial institution or company.

While we are unable to provide more detail at this time due to the ongoing investigation, please know that we are taking all necessary steps to investigate and respond to this incident.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
