What is Counseling?

Counseling is the deliberation or the working together to solve what one wants to work on. A counselor is a master’s level mental health provider trained to work with individuals, families and groups in treating mental, behavioral and emotional problems and disorders providing skills essential to living a productive, purposeful life that helps you and your relationships. Counseling is a tool like shovels and dump trucks are tools to do work. It is not a sign of weakness to use tools to make our lives better. Why use a truck to haul big loads of sand instead of hauling it by buckets or in bags on our backs? To make life better… it is the exact same with counseling. To do certain things, we have to have the right tools to work with and know how to use them to help us… tools we may have never used before or learned how to use before. Counseling is a tool.
