Cogdell Expands Orthopedic Surgery Services
Cogdell is pleased to announce an expansion of orthopedic services with the addition of Dr. Richard Okafor, Orthopedic Surgeon. “Dr. Okafor’s timing was perfect,” states Ella Helms, CEO of Cogdell Memorial Hospital. “We had been searching for another surgeon to round out our Orthopedic Program and allow us to care for more patients locally. He has been a great fit with our team.”

The staff and employees are collegial, highly trained and equipped with state of the art technology that will allow us to take care of our community’s most pressing health issues,” states, Dr. Okafor. ” I’m happy to say that we are now expanding our orthopedic services from pediatric and adult injuries to joint replacements and reconstruction”.
Dr. Okafor specializes in general orthopedics, with a sub-specialization in joint replacement and complex joint revision and reconstruction. Dr. Okafor was born in Sierra Leone and has lived in multiple countries including Nigeria, Switzerland, and Trinidad before moving to the United States for his medical education and training. He is excited to be a Texan and in his spare time enjoys traveling, playing table tennis, and weight training.
Helms states that joint replacement surgery has been a request from patients for years. “The ability to add this service to our community has been well received. With Dr. Okafor’s skill and our inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs, patients will be pleased with the convenience of being able to recover close to home.”
